Kirstie & Tiffany's Intimate Maine Wedding | Boston LGBTQ+ Wedding Photographer
In November 2019, before COVID really kicked off the micro wedding trend, Kirstie and Tiffany decided that rather than having a large, costly wedding, they wanted to keep things small and intimate. They invited 30 of their closest friends and family to join them in Maine for a weekend retreat. They rented out this amazing property, called Moose Lake Ranch, complete with a huge outdoor space, a fire pit, and a dock on a lake. It was the perfect way to relax and spend time with the people they love.
Kirstie is a friend of mine from college, so I was really excited when she asked me to photograph the wedding. What really sold me was when they told me that I should dress like I was going apple picking or being photographed for the L.L. Bean catalogue. My wife and I booked an Airbnb nearby so that we could capture some of the festivities on Saturday night before the Sunday morning wedding ceremony. It was so fun to see everyone arrive and join in on the cooking and laughter. There were also really delicious cupcakes from Dorene’s Creative Cakes. I got a chance to pull K&T away from the party for a few minutes to get some photos of them in their matching flannels and L.L. Bean boots before the sun went down and the campfire started.
The next morning, we were up bright and early to get ready for the ceremony! Tiffany got ready downstairs in the master suite, while Kirstie got dressed upstairs so that they wouldn’t run into each other. Of course, I was always paying attention to keep them apart because when you’re in the same house, it’s so easy to run into each other by accident. Both of their moms were on duty to help out with getting all the details just right.
Kirstie and Tiffany chose to do a first look so that they could have a private moment before the wedding, but still get the surprise of seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. I love first looks, so I was really happy they chose to do one. It also gave us the chance to knock out a few photos of the two of them before the ceremony, without everyone watching them.
With an intimate wedding like this, there usually isn’t a DJ or event coordinator, so while we took photos out front, everyone else got the ceremony set up in the back of the house. The guests formed a semi-circle so that everyone could surround Kirstie and Tiffany for the ceremony. K&T ran the ceremony themselves and it was a tear jerker. They even had me crying at one point.
After the ceremony, we made sure to get lots of family photos, as well as a photo of all the guests, and snuck in a few more of K&T. Tiffany even brought out her official wedding flannel! I grabbed a few last minute details, including their gorgeous flowers from Sweet Pea Designs, and then went on my way, leaving them to celebrate with their friends and family.
